Duke Nukem Not Dead?

by Mike on Dec.29, 2009, under December 2009, News Corner

3D Realms.. Why is it that I always hear the theme music from Looney Tunes when someone talks about 3D Realms?

3D Realms‘ Scott Miller has gone and stirred things up (again) regarding the oft-lamented Duke Nukem Forever project. Shacknews (h/t VE3D) is reporting that Miller talked with Gamesauce magazine and spoke about the Duke Nukem franchise, plans for other unannounced Duke games, even ones spilling over into the casual market.

As for the long-coming Duke Nukem Forever, Miller stressed that “we’ve never said that Duke Nukem Forever has ceased development,” explaining “yes, we released the internal team, but that doesn’t correlate to the demise of the project.” Back in June, 3D Realms claimed it was still working on “the development of” Duke Nukem Forever, despite having “released the majority of its employees working on the development.”

My reaction.

My reaction.

Okay, seriously, who actually beliefs that someday DNF will be finished and released? I mean c’mon 3D Realms, enough is enough. If you aren’t going to finish this game, just say it! Or make up some excuses like “hackers stole our source code!”

Aliens vs. Predator: Uncut in Australia!

by Mike on Dec.18, 2009, under December 2009, News Corner

We're going to Australia!

We're going to Australia!

Gamers from Australia have something to rejoice this Christmas! IGN reports that the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator will be seeing an Australian release and it is going to be left uncut!

SEGA Australia today confirmed that Aliens vs. Predator will be seeing an Australian release, as the Australian Classification Review Board has overturned the original decision to Refuse Classification for the game and has given it an MA15+ rating. With no cuts made.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal,” commented Darren Macbeth, Managing Director, SEGA Australia. “We are particularly proud that the game will be released in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed whatsoever. This is a big win for Australian gamers. We applaud the Classification Review Board on making a decision that clearly considers the context of the game, and is in line with the modern expectations of reasonable Australians.”

If you aren’t aware, Australia is very strict when it comes down to R18+ video games. In fact, they don’t even have an R18+ or X18 rating for video games. Every game that exceeds the MA15+ rating will be immediately banned from Australia. This includes games like Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 3 and GTA games.

It’s good to hear that SEGA managed to get the original decision overturned and now Australian gamers who have been waiting to get their hands on this game can rest easy and wait for this game to be released. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Australian gamers?

Mega Man 10 Coming In 2010

by Mike on Dec.10, 2009, under December 2009, News Corner

.. What?

.. What?

Mega Man 10 is coming for Wii in 2010!

The latest, upcoming issue of Nintendo Power has revealed that Capcom is working on the official sequel to Mega Man 9: Mega Man 10 is coming to the WiiWare channel early next year.

This revelation of this sequel is completely unsurprising considering Capcom’s strategy of producing many sequels once an engine is built (Mega Man Battle Network, Phoenix Wright, and Street Fighter II, anyone?). Mega Man 10, according to the preview Nintendo Power released on the web today, will use the same 8-bit style that Mega Man 9 utilized earlier this year.

Expect new levels, new challenges, and new enemies, like Sheep Man, a boss character that will shock players with its electrical attack. Mega Man will be playable as will Proto Man, but the preview teases a third playable character that’s being kept under wraps.

I see that Mega Man 10 is going to be 8-bit style (like Mega Man 9 that was released in 2008). You know, the funny thing is that I still haven’t played Mega Man 9. Every time I have thought about getting it and playing it, I have just forgotten about it. But I did play Mega Man 2 recently, 8-bit awesomeness at its best! Mega Man was at the top of its peak during the 8-bit era so I’m not complaining for Mega Man 10 being 8-bit.

… Sheep Man? I have to say I laughed a little when I read that.

Demo for Dante’s Inferno Coming This December!

by Mike on Dec.02, 2009, under December 2009, News Corner

No! It's nothing like that!

No! It's nothing like that!

More like this..

Greatness incoming! Hold on to your hats!

Now that Thanksgiving is out of the way, we can all set our sights on the upcoming seasonal holiday in December. And what better way to enter into the spirit of charity to others, wellbeing and all that guff than with a taste of EA’s hellish action game Dante’s Inferno. A demo for the PlayStation 3 will hit the PSN on December 10th while Xbox 360 players have to hang on until December 24th.

Dante’s Inferno takes gamers on a quest through hell, in an action-packed adaptation of part one of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, The Divine Comedy. The ‘Gates of Hell’ demo includes the entire opening level and gives gamers a taste of the terrifying odyssey to come in the Nine Circles of Hell as depicted in the full game.

Visceral Games‘ retail release is still on target to hit the streets on February 9th of next year. Time to sharpen those demon-slaying blades…

I can’t wait! I have been following this game for a long time now (we actually have couple of trailers of this game in our Saturday Video). Unfortunately I do not own a PS3 so it looks like I have to wait a little longer to get on my hands on this demo for my Xbox 360. Damn you PS3!
